A little wind in the back!

Where I grew up on the harsh west coast of Denmark there are a few things you can always count on, and the number one thing on the list is wind. I learned to loathe the wind from when I was very young. Esbjerg is the name of my town in case anyone wants to look up the city for a future trip to a place that smells a lot like the seafood section at Meijer gone bad. "Esbjerg" means, "hill where
people put bait on hooks", Esbjerg is just old and short and sweet for just that. I don't know why I just included that piece of information, but it might have to do with the fact that my wife calls me a Danish hillbilly. There are no hills in Esbjerg, so there can be no Hillbillies. I don't know where they got the name Esbjerg from, I mean they probably put bait on hooks somewhere, but the land is flat. Later on they have introduced hills I guess to feel more authentic. We have a hill with lights that light up according to how many cars are on the freeway. I still don't think the Hillbilly has any merit.
One of the reasons why I don't write much on the blog is that I am not sure if I can figure out how to write short and sweet like those Danes who came up with the name of my town. My town would be called: "manwhotalksalottomakepeoplebuyexpensivefurnituretheydonotneed" short version could be "Salesbury" (talks people to death).
My initial reason for writing today was to because for some reason I remembered not liking to ride my bike to school in Esbjerg. In Denmark your bike is equally important to cars here and you must show your bike respect and love, but I did not always feel that way about my steel horse. I always had to ride my bike to school or work app. 5 miles each way and like I said in the beginning you can always count on the wind being there, I mean right there in your face. Monday morning in your face with a wet windy reminder that this is only the first day of 5 maybe 6 workdays. I usually travelled from East to West in the morning and West to East in the afternoon. The sweet thing about living close to the ocean is that the meanness that greeted you in the morning turns to joy when your tired body feels the wind like a giant hand on your back.......pushing, and suddenly the wind is your friend and the old faithful bike gets a well deserved brake from the verbal abuse.
The reason that I thought of all this is because of the election. I can't vote don't worry! We had a politician/comedian who once ran for Parliament sort of as a joke. He a wore beautiful suit made of burlap and wooden shoes and he made some promises that we all wanted to believe. He said that he would guarantee that the wind would always be in our back as we rode our bikes.
If only the candidates had such a promise for the transportation woes of this country. "I promise only downhill all the time on the highway, feel free to coast as much as you like!"
